A license suspension can be costly. Whether your license is suspended for a week or a year, there is a good chance that your insurance company will drop you. Even if they don't, your rates may substantially increase. In addition, if you drive while your license is suspended, you could face additional suspension and jail time. To get your license restored, you must pay a $100 restoration fee, receive a written notice, and then follow the steps for an ordinary license renewal. Mandatory Probation PeriodA mandatory probation period starts after completion of the probationary driver program, driver improvement program, official warning issued by the MVC or restoration after points or persistent violator suspension. During this period, a violation during the first six months will result in an additional suspension of 90 days. A violation occurring withing 7 to 9 months will result in 60 days suspension while a violation occurring between 9 and 12 months results in a 45 day suspension. The penalties increase if you receive a second violation. The same time frames apply, but the suspensions increase to 180, 120 and 90 days respectively. |
