Mercer County is an interesting place to practice criminal law because many government agencies as well as the New Jersey Attorney General's office are based in Trenton and other areas in Mercer County. In addition, the city of Trenton produces a lot of street crime while the wealthy areas of the county produce a good amount of white collar crime. While much of the white collar crime is prosecuted in Federal Court, arrests for New Jersey State crimes such as theft, fraud and other white collar crimes are high. For example, arrests for gambling offenses in the Trenton area were the second highest in New Jersey, only behind Atlantic City.
