CHILD DIES AFTER BEING LEFT IN A HOT CAR

Hot CarThe temperature inside of a vehicle can rise very quickly, especially during hot summer months. Although the outdoor thermostat might only read in the mid-80s, a car’s interior temperature, especially when parked in the sun’s rays, can fast approach 135 degrees, then 155, then 160….

There is NO amount of time acceptable to leave a child, nor a pet, inside of a vehicle. More than 500 children have perished in this unimaginable way since 1990. A child’s body temperature can rise to dangerous levels in the blink of an eye, causing heat stroke.

Symptoms of heat stroke include:

  • Dizziness
  • Dehydration / thirst
  • Confusion
  • Anxiety
  • Seizure
  • If there is no timely medical intervention – Death

Every summer, preventable deaths occur. Earlier this week, a Florida two year old died after she was left inside of a hot car by her father, who had forgotten that the child was still in the vehicle. The child had been left in the car for several hours, while the outside temperature soared into the mid-90s.
